They produce the equipment which is used to make the wafer based crystalline silicon that is used in solar panels. This division also makes the equipment for use in glass-based thin film applications to increase conversion efficiency. The company also produces the equipment used to produce low emissivity and solar control architectural glass and provides software for various applications. Applied Materials Incorporated is currently involved in the Masdar Initiative which the construction of a solar powered and environmentally safe city in Abu Dhabi. They are producing the machinery that will produce the solar modules to power the new city. One line will be located in Erfurt, Germany and the other two will be located in Abu Dubai. The first in Germany is expected to be operational in 1009 and the other two in 2010. The company has facilities in a variety of countries around the world and is active in community events in various locations.
