Save Money By Heating Water With A Flat-Plate Array

With the costs of electricity already high and going up on what feels like a continual basis, many business owners are seeking out ways to save money where they can. One of the best ways for businesses that rely on a lot of hot water to pinch pennies involves the use of a solar powered heating system. A flat-plate array configuration can make a big difference on this front.

A flat-plate system involves special solar panels that are designed to transform solar energy into heat energy. They are considered very useful for water heating in particular. Whether it's for actual hot water heaters or even swimming pools, these panels can deliver the power that is necessary.

A flat plate system is designed in a thin box shape. The top of the box has a glazed top and the bottom is dark in color to absorb the sun's energy. The sides of the box are typically insulated to prevent any "energy" leaks. Power absorbed by these panels is harnessed to heat water.

The advantages of using a flat-plate system instead of electricity to heat water with solar energy include:

  • Money savings - Solar systems can cost a bit to put into place, but they can make up for that over time in savings on electric bills. How much exactly will be saved will depend on the demand and the system put into place.
  • Environmental savings - Any time fossil fuels can be saved, it's a good thing. When solar power is harnessed, environmental impacts are not existent.
  • Marketing - Commercial Laundromats, car washes, restaurants and other establishments that use solar power when possible can benefit from the "green" marketing that can result. This can actually help pull in new business and revenue as a spin off effect.

Flat-plate arrays can work very well in a number of different settings that require hot water. There's no reason to keep paying high electric bills when the sun's power will get the job done.
