Grid Tie System System - Build a Solid, Reliable Free Power Source with Solar Energy

A Grid Tie System system or solar grid-tie system connects photovoltaic systems with an existing solar power grid to combine multiple units together and to add new ones to the system later on. Not only does this allow for residences and businesses to have reliable power, it also allows for excess electricity produced by the system to be sold back under a plan called "Net metering." Furthermore, an alternative is a GTB or grid-tie system with battery backup. A GTB has all the features of a Grid Tie System but with a battery to store power that can be used when the system isn't producing electricity like at night or during a power outage.

For residential use, you can optimally use a Grid Tie System system to:

  • Produce your own electricity (and lower your electricity bill significantly).
  • Cushion against electricity rate increases and overall increasing fuel rates.
  • Tap into sunlight, a natural free power source.
  • Create an environmentally-friendly household not dependent on fossil fuel.
  • Significantly increase your real estate value.

A Grid Tie System system can be easily installed on any rooftop. Usually included in the package:Layout of a GTS System

  • Solar panel modules with "MC" interconnects
  • Solar mount for mounting the solar panels (including a rail set with L-feet, top-clamps, and splice kits)
  • Power center (usually pre-wired) for the grid-tie inverter that includes an aluminum back panel, Direct Current (DC) disconnect switch, and a utility-grade meter, among many others, to make installation of the inverter easy.
  • A grid-tie inverter that changes Direct Current (DC) into Alternate Current (AC) to run electronic appliances and other devices.
  • Various wiring is also included such as interconnect extension cords and wire clips, Photovoltaic grounding systems, Photovoltaic fused combiner, array wiring pull boxes, and more.

Consumers who own Grid Tie System can take advantage of Net metering in certain areas. Net metering allows you to deduct energy going out from the energy coming in, meaning you will be eligible to receive retail credit (or a portion of it) from what you would usually pay with your electric bill. Simply, you can store excess electricity production with your Grid Tie System for future credit. However, incentives vary by country and in the United States by state if it is even available. Among the states in the U.S. that offer Net metering are California, Colorado, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Kansas.
